What is MCU in BSNL?

You must have seen this abbreviation many a times on BSNL website where they are mentioning their broadband tariff. Most of the their combo plans comes with free calls and is usually given in a numerical format like 250 or 300. These number basically refers to the MCU which stands for Metered Call Unit. A MCU is basically a pulse which is pre defined by BSNL. For e.g. most of the combo plans are based on One India landline by BSNL and in this particular plan:

  • 180 Seconds Pulse duration for a landline to landline call.
  • 120 Seconds Pulse duration for a landline to local mobile call.
  • 60 Seconds Pulse duration for a landline to outside local mobile call.

There is one more fact here which is quite ambiguous and even BSNL employees don’t know much about this. So as per the above pulse duration, for 400 MCU we can call for:

  • 37.5 Hours from our landline to a local landline.
  • 33.3 Hours from our landline to a local mobile.
  • 16.6 Hours from our landline to a outside local mobile.

But as per my latest telephonic conversation with a BSNL CC, they told me than in case you dial a local landline number from your landline than only first 3 minutes that is 180 seconds will be free and after that it will be charged as per the One India plan. Well this completely negates out the benefit of having free calls with combo plans but as you know it is still ambiguous for me.

Samsung Galaxy S3 up for pre order at Samsung India E Store

Quad core based and much awaited next generation Galaxy S3 is now up for pre order in India. Galaxy S3 was initially announced by Samsung at an event in London. It was one of the much awaited smartphone and it’s rumoured pictures and specifications occupiers the internet for nearly one month before the announcement.

One can visit this link { Click here to pre order Galaxy S3 } and can book Galaxy S3 for Rs. 2,000. Every customer who had pre ordered Galaxy S3 from Samsung E Store will get Bluetooth headset worth Rs. 2,299 ( as claimed by Samsung ). But there is loop hole in this entire deal, there is no mentioning of expected price or any sort of expected MRP for this phone. So in case you are booking this phone today and on actual launch if it gets a price tag of Rs. 42,000 (rumoured) than you are stuck. Either purchase at such high MRP or your pre booking amount gets wasted.

I would really suggest not to pre order Galaxy S3 as the price is not confirmed and Samsung on their E Store usually sell mobiles only at MRP prices and gives no discount as local retailers or Flipkart. As for an example yet to be launched dual core smart phone Galaxy S Advance is listed at Samsung E Store for Rs. 26,790 but most of the local retailers and Flipkart is selling at Rs. 23,999.

As far as specs are concerned Galaxy S3 is a quad core based smart phone and beats every other smart phone in that price range.

Unexpected $end in PHP while using Heredoc syntax

Hello all of you.

You might be getting this error in case if you are using Heredoc syntax in your PHP program. First of all you need to know the fact that Heredoc syntax is very strict about it’s use. Always follow the syntax rule while programming in PHP.

The error “Unexpected $end on line xx” is mainly cause if you have white space after the closing Heredoc tag. As a reference please see the image below, in this image the green portion represents whitespace after closing EOD.

How to check your IP address?

Well checking the IP address assigned to you by your ISP is not a very big thing. There are many websites and portals available on the web which can tell your IP address. You can also check the IP address through Command Prompt in case if you are using windows. Methods for checking web address are listed below:

Via a web portal

  • Please visit this site http://who.is
  • After visiting this site, on the front page you will see a sentence running like this Your IP is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. This xxx thingy will be your IP address
  • If your ISP is providing you with static IP than this address will always remain constant but if your ISP is providing you a dynamic IP than this address will definitely change.

Via Command Prompt

  • Open Command Prompt in Windows by following All Programs –> Accessories –> Command Prompt
  • Open it and you will see a black screen.
  • Write in this black screen the following line ipconfig
  • After this you will get some data on the black screen. Locate in this data the following info IPv4 Address . . . . . . . . . . . .xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

How to create .htaccess file?

After publishing m previous article many people are asking me that how should they create the .htaccess file in Windows OS. First of all let us make this thing clear that you will not be able to create .htaccess file on a Windows OS because in Windows you require to name a given file but in this case we are just creating  a file without name and just extension which will be illegal for a Windows OS.

You can overcome this problem by following the steps listed below:

  • First creating a htaccess.txt file in Windows OS
  • Open the file and add all the necessary code and commands to it and than save it.
  • Upload the file to your web server via FTP or via cPanel or any other panel provided by your webhost.
  • After uploading rename the file htaccess.txt to .htaccess in the interface provided by the cPanel of your webhost.

I hope you now know how to create .htaccess file.
