Instead of decreasing the fees for 2G data plans in 2013, Indian telecom major Airtel and Vodafone decided to raise the price of their standard 1 GB data plan by as much as 25%. The reason cited for this huge price increase is that company is facing less profit margin and in order to balance the situation this price increase is a necessary step.
Airtel’s 1GB data plan which is based on 2G technology was initially priced at Rs. 100 per month but from now onwards it will priced at around Rs. 125.
Similarly its rival Vodafone also decided to raise the price of their 1 GB data plan from Rs. 95 to Rs. 124.
There is still no clarity on the fact that whether these companies will increase the price of their 3G services also or not. As according to some industry experts other companies will also follow Airtel, Vodafone and consequently will increase the price of their 2G data plans.
