Can Windows 8 save the PC market from declining further?

intelAs you all know that PC market is under pressure from the smartphone and tablet market as more and more people or end consumers are shifting towards to these portable devices for their productivity and computing needs. Even for entertainment more and more people are going for tablets instead of laptops.

In the latest report from an independent consulting firm, the total PC sales of this year will remain more or less same as the previous year. The chances of decline in PC sales as the time passes is much more. With the incoming of cheap tablets from Micromax and Karbonn, the market of mid level laptops is facing more stiff competition than they have ever had.

The only ray of hope for the PC market is the launch of Windows 8 from Microsoft on October 26. Many end users are waiting for the laptops and desktops that come pre loaded with Windows 8. This can give initial boost to the PC sales but again it all depends on the performance of Windows 8. it will be a very important time for both Microsoft and other PC makers.

The world’s largest chip maker Intel is also facing the pressure of declining PC sales. From the previous few years Intel has a complete dominance over the consumer PC market and because of this they charge heavily for their products. They are presently trying to revive the PC market with the popularity of Ultrabooks but that does appear to work for them as they had expected. One of the main reasons for the complete flop of Ultrabook is its extremely high price and low performance. People can cope up with low performance but not with the high price tag. But again Intel is determined not to lower the price of their chips to lower the average price of Ultrabooks.
