India’s National Broadband Plan vs Australia’s National Broadband Network

Well accept it or not Australian Government is really doing a great favor to their citizens by upgrading their entire network of Copper cables with optical fiber. This means that the you will get your internet on a optical fiber network expanded up to your home. That would be great indeed.Isn’t it?

But this thing will not come cheap. Australian government is investing nearly 38 billion dollar in spreading the optical fiber which will lit up the countries broadband future. They have realized that quality broadband service is key factor in over all growth of the country.

But here comes India, a country filled with corruption and poor quality copper! The TRAI as promised didn’t change the definition of broadband till now. This directly indicates that they are earning tons of money from these private telecom players like Airtel etc. The TRAI had recently suggested a National Broadband Plan which will solve the countries last mile problem. but there is no note on when will it be executed?

FTTH (Fiber to the X. Here X is home.) service started by BSNL is ridiculously expensive. It is kept at that price so that no one will be able to buy it. That’s really pathetic of a state run behemoth. Indian broadband instead of growing is getting plunged into the darkness from where there is no way out.

Good luck Indian Broadband

Best broadband plan in India updated october 2011

Broadband definition in India is still 256Kbps but in order to enjoy the true hd experience on the web on must need atleast 1 Mbps broadband connection. 1 Mbps broadband connection will give you a download speed of around 128 KBps.

Presently in this article i have not considered small ISP’s or local cable walas which can provide you with some lucrative plans. I am considering here three big ISP’s of India i.e. BSNL, Airtel and Reliance Communication. Also here i am considering only the wired broadband plans not the wimax or 3g one’s.

Best broadband plan under Rs. 1000 in India is provided by Reliance Communications under the combo category. Some of the features of this plan are listed below:-

Plan Name – Ace Pack 999

Cost              – Rs. 999/month +tax at 10.3%

Speed          – 1 Mbps down and 512Kbps up

Usage          – Unlimited

Landline    – Available

Call Rate    – 50p/minute Local. No STD

Though Reliance has large coverage area but still it’s availability is limited as compared to Airtel. Also there is one more ISP named Sify which is providing 1 Mbps unlimited at Rs. 898/month but it’s reliability is questionable.

When will the condition of broadband improves in India?

When will the condition of broadband improves in India?

There are many big telecom players in India but no not even a single is providing reliable service. All providers just consider  customers as money making machines. Some of the very serious points to be considered are:-

  1. Speed:-India is still considering 256 Kbps a broadband. What a shame on a huge country like India. Even much more smaller economies have much better speed and minimum ping issues.
  2. Ping:-Don’t ask this word or term to a any customer support center because they will get astonished on what are you asking. We all know how important this ping is when certain tasks are considered but first think of a solution on how to make them understand this term.
  3. FUP or F**k User Policy:-Every body must be aware of this term. Fair usage policy refers to the the speed restriction done by the companies after particular amount of data limit has been reached. For example you will get 2 Mbps up to 8 GB and 256 Kbps afterwards. This thing really makes problem for heavy down loaders. According to me this concept will be good if data limits are sufficient and calculated in a proper manner but these pea sized limits forces a user to withdraw the connection from that provider.

True unlimited are still a distant dream for Indians.
