How to create .htaccess file?

After publishing m previous article many people are asking me that how should they create the .htaccess file in Windows OS. First of all let us make this thing clear that you will not be able to create .htaccess file on a Windows OS because in Windows you require to name a given file but in this case we are just creating  a file without name and just extension which will be illegal for a Windows OS.

You can overcome this problem by following the steps listed below:

  • First creating a htaccess.txt file in Windows OS
  • Open the file and add all the necessary code and commands to it and than save it.
  • Upload the file to your web server via FTP or via cPanel or any other panel provided by your webhost.
  • After uploading rename the file htaccess.txt to .htaccess in the interface provided by the cPanel of your webhost.

How to secure your wordpress admin directory?

As you all might know that the Admin directory of a default WordPress install is located at wp-admin folder. This folder contains all the administrator files and should be accessed by an administrators only. We can add a layer of security to this wp-admin folder or to our admin folder by creating a file named .htaccess inside the wp-admin folder ( How to create .htaccess file ? ). In this file add the following lines of code:

deny from all

#white list

allow from your_isp_static_ip

Instead of your_isp_static_ip please put in the IP address assigned to you by your ISP ( How to check your IP address ? ). If the IP address assigned to you by your ISP is dynamic in nature than also you can protect your admin folder. In that case instead of your_isp_static_ip put in the {xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa} where the expression in the curly bracket represents your IP address.In this do not put the entire IP address. Here first of all you have to check which part of your IP remains constant that is whether xxx remains constant and than check for yyy and so on. in most of the dynamic IP cases xxx part always remains constant. After checking which part of your IP address remains constant form a expression accordingly for example i am here assuming that for my IP xxx and yyy remains constant than instead of you_isp_static_ip put in xxx.yyy

In this way you can restrict access to your wp-admin folder and this securing it.

Sony Xperia U, some serious flaws

So Sony has finally started to manufacture main stream Dual Core smart phones and it’s first two models Xperia U and Xperia Sola are now readily available here in India. Xperia Sola seems to be decent buy at Rs. 19,999 as it contains most of the features and is powered by a 1 GHz Dual Core processor. On the other hand Xperia U, a cheaper alternative Sola lacks some serious features which make it a stupid buy as compared to Sola. Here are some of the features which are lacking in Xperia U:

  • No micro SD card slot- Well this will be a negligible feature if inbuilt phone memory is at least 8 GB but it is not. At 4 GB internal memory, it is quite less as compared  to  Xperia Sola.
  • No HDMI port
  • No dedicated GPU- It is still not confirmed that whether Xperia U contains a dedicated GPU or not but preliminary results reports that it does not contain a dedicated GPU.
  • 512 MB RAM is unsuitable for upcoming ICS upgrade.
  • Old version of Bluetooth (2.1)

Presently Xperia U is retailing at Rs. 16,499.

Update

As per the latest test performed by actual owners of Xperia U, it has been confirmed that Xperia U does have “Single Core” Mali 400 GPU and due to this it can play high end games too. But you should also keep in mind that this Mali 400 is different from the Mali 400 found in Galaxy S2 in terms of the number of cores. Mali 400 GPU in S2 have 2 cores. There is even a quad core Mali 400 chip.

Galaxy S Advance listed for pre order at Flipkart

Galaxy S AdvanceSamsung loves to launch new smart phones and here they are going to add a new member to their ever growing Galaxy family in the form of Galaxy S Advance. Galaxy S Advance is listed for pre order at Flipkart for Rs. 23,999. It is expected to be launched in the 4th week of May, 2012. Though the presence of word Advance in the name of the new Galaxy smartphone, Galaxy S Advance do not have anything special to offer. it is priced at just Rs, 2,000 lower than Galaxy S2 which is presently retailing at Rs. 26,000 or even lower if you know how to bargain.

Galaxy S Advance is basically launched by Samsung to fill the space which became vacant after the extinction of Galaxy R smartphone. Galaxy S Advance also packs a dual core 1 GHz CPU and features 4 inch Super Amoled display.

Galaxy S Advance rivals with other dual core phones available in the market in this price range. It’s price is basically quite high if you compare with the price of newly launched dual core phones by Sony that is Xperia U and Xperia Sola. The only major difference between Samsung and new Xperia phones is size of the display. Other rivals include Motorola Atrix 2 which also packs a dual core CPU and 4.3 inch display. But the quality Motorola is always an issue here in India.

ICSE 2012 board results to be declared tomorrow

As per the latest notification released by ICSE board that the results for all the board classes of 2012 year that is 10th and 12th will be declared tomorrow. All the candidates can get their respective results on the website http://cisce.examresults.net . Please click on the link and input your roll number.

One can also get the result via SMS facility. Please SMS ICSE roll_number to 58888. This method is however not confirmed.
